Justin Boyer, Composer/Pianist

Bio

Justin Boyer (b. 1978) is a composer, pianist, organist, and teacher in the Washington D.C. Metro region. Born and raised in western Maryland, Boyer began composing and playing piano at age 9, coming under the tutelage of Dr. Clair Johannsen, a local organist and composer. In 1995, Boyer entered the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore where he continued his studies with Mr. Morris Cotel and earned several awards and commendations. Upon receiving a Masters Degree in 2000, Boyer became organist and music director at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eastpoint. Starting in 2002, he taught theory and composition at the Peabody Conservatory. Boyer now is professor of music theory at Montgomery College in Rockville, MD. A rejecter of systems and methods, Boyer finds inspiration through the improvised blending of many styles, an approach he believes is the only true way to arrive at a natural, conscious expression of the movings of the spirit and body.
